(WTHR) - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning people of a deadly bug native to Indiana .
That insect - the Triatominae or ‘kissing bug’.
According to the organization, it can transmit Chagas disease.
While Chagas disease is mainly found in rural areas of Mexico, Central America, and South America, the CDC says it has been reported in 32 states.
Eight of those states have reported human cases. They are Arizona, Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas.
About 8 million people globally, including about 280,000 people in the U.S., have Chagas disease, according to the organization.
Oftentimes, the CDC says people don’t even know they have it.
However, if it isn’t treated, it can be deadly.
