FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - It’s official - a Fort Wayne man now holds the world record for the tallest sunflower.

On Wednesday, Guinness World Records accepted Alex Babich’s ‘Clover’ as the world champion , while publishing an article on its website to reflect the plant’s story.

Babich immigrated to Fort Wayne from Ukraine in 1991 and began gardening to show his children that you can grow plants organically and reap the reward later.

He says that at the time, he never imagined how far gardening would take him.

Babich first began gardening sunflowers, the national flower of Ukraine, seven years ago.

Each year, the sunflowers continued to grow taller.

Babich set the U.S record for the tallest sunflower in 2022 - the plant measuring 25 feet.
