Gary Lineker has been named the best TV presenter at the National Television Awards.

The former Match of the Day host wrestled the award away from Ant and Dec during Wednesday night's ceremony.

Lineker received the gong at the O2 Arena in London following a public vote for the winner.

His victory recognised his work as host of Match of the Day during the last year.

The former England role left the role in May after 26 seasons, before departing the BBC altogether.

In winning the NTA award, Lineker ended Ant and Dec's 23-year streak as title holders.

Fellow TV presenters Alison Hammond, Claudia Winkleman and Stacey Solomon were also nominated alongside the duo.
