OREM, Utah —President Trump announced on social media that Charlie Kirk had died after being shot in the neck at an event in Utah.

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” the president wrote on Truth Social. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika and family. Charlie, we love you!”

Kirk, a conservative activist, was shot at an event at Utah Valley University earlier today, in Orem, Utah.

The suspect in the shooting is not yet in custody, according to a spokesperson from Utah Valley University, despite the school saying earlier that police did have someone in custody.
