SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - South Burlington officials are discussing a potential speed limit for bikes and e-bikes on shared paths.

Whether on foot or on wheels, South Burlington’s sidewalks and shared paths are popular.

But Bob Britt, who serves on the city’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee, says there’s some swirling concerns about bikes-- particularly e-bikes -- speeding. The committee in recent months has been on the search for solutions.

“Whether it’s education, signage, or other ways of doing it, one of which might be putting a speed limit on,” Britt said.

We asked shared path users how they would feel about a 20 mph speed limit for bikes and e-bikes on the paths.

“I think that would seem like a reasonable idea,” said local resident Ethan Joseph.
