WOLCOTT, Vt. (WCAX) - Wolcott, a town known for its honorary cat mayor and one of the last covered railroad bridges in the U.S. -- now part of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail -- was chartered in 1781. It has a population of 1,670. And in this week’s edition of Vermont’s Own -- where we’re visiting every town and city across the state -- Darren Perron learned those residents now have a forest to call their own.

The Wolcott resident is talking about the town’s just-constructed trail system in the Wolcott Community Forest. It’s 735 acres of land now owned by the town.
