HEDGESVILLE - Hedgesville has spent a lot of time on the road early on in the volleyball season, with only one home match in the first few weeks.

The defending state champion Eagles returned home on Tuesday against Jefferson and put together a strong effort against the Cougars, earning a 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-11) victory.

The win helped continue a strong start for Hedgesville, which improved its record to 11-3-1 and has shown early on why its a contender again for a state title.

For coach Allison Whitford, though, it's about taking things one match at time and not focusing on any expectations as the defending champion.
