LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) — All public flags in Michigan will be lowered to half-staff starting Wednesday in honor of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed at a speaking event in Utah.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer ordered flags to be lowered at the Capitol Complex and on all public buildings across the state, in accordance with an order issued by President Donald Trump.
The governor’s office encouraged residents, businesses, schools, local governments and other organizations to also lower their flags. They should return to full staff by Sunday.
Kirk, 31, was speaking at Utah Valley University as part of an event hosted by his organization, Turning Point. He was sitting under a white tent speaking when a single gunshot was fired at 12:20 p.m., moments after he was asked abou
