BOISE, Idaho — On Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks were carried out on the New York World Trade Center, which changed the United States landscape. An Idaho man serving in the Air Force during that time will be promoted on the anniversary date.

Idaho State Police will promote Lt. Jason Horst to captain on Thursday during a ceremony scheduled for the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, a date the Air Force veteran stated holds profound personal significance.

Horst, whose military career was shaped by the 2001 attacks, served in the U.S. Air Force from 1991 to 2005.

According to the ISP, following 9/11, he taught anti-terrorism protection, helped secure ballots during Afghanistan's first democratic election and flew missions while stationed in Uzbekistan.
