DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has ordered flags at half-staff this week to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk and the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Charlie Kirk, a conservative political activist, was shot and killed on Wednesday while leading a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. Witnesses say a single gunshot hit Kirk in the neck.

Investigators say there’s a person of interest in custody and is being questioned.

In a post on X, Governor Kim Reynolds released a statement after the shooting.

“Horrific news from Utah Valley University. Kevin and I are praying for Charlie Kirk and his family.”

She’s called to have flags at half-staff in Iowa in remembrance of Kirk until sunset on Sunday, September 14.
