IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Iowa City City Council members still have not decided to support Johnson County’s plan to build a joint law enforcement facility and new jail with Iowa City Police.
Sheriff Brad Kunkel says Johnson County needs to build a new jail no matter what, the question now is whether or not Iowa City will be involved.
If the two law enforcement agencies do get a joint building, it could save taxpayers millions.
“Capacity at the jail has been an issue really since the late 80s,” Kunkel said.
