LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Von Payne Spirits founder Steven Allen has been looking for a 'home' for the brand's gothic allure and gargoyle-embellished whiskey for a couple of years.

The Florida-based company searched nationwide for the perfect place to house a distillery and event space that matched the brand's "dark and sexy" nature.

"I would get online and look on the real estate sites and type in a couple of interesting keywords, like church and castle," Allen said. "Then I saw this building pop up."

That building was the 60,000-square-foot historic landmark at 1400 Broadway in West Louisville, designed by prominent architect Arthur Loomis and opened in 1908 as Bond Bread.
