CLAVERACK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The case against a psychologist accused of sexually abusing patients while working at a youth rehabilitation center in Claverack will go to trial after the defendant recanted her guilty plea.

Maya Hayes took the stand on Wednesday and delivered a letter that stated she was coerced into her confession.

In April 2024, Hayes was indicted on 62 counts of criminal sexual act and three counts of rape of minors aged 16 to 18. She pleaded guilty in June and was scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday, but instead took the stand to deliver the letter and denied the allegations.

The judge then vacated the conviction and set a trial date for March 10, 2026.
