WOOLMARKET, Miss. (WLOX) - Wednesday, Coast middle schoolers put on their lab coats and stepped into the shoes of real scientists.

Researchers brought lessons from the lab straight to the students, allowing them to explore the science behind protecting the environment and the Coast’s seafood industry.

7th graders at North Woolmarket Elementary & Middle School worked and thought as bacteria researchers, learning that science goes far beyond textbooks.

“The students were learning about environmental disruptions,” explained science teacher Tanya Rae Adams. “It’s a hard topic for 7th graders to grasp. Things like Chernobyl, Camp LeJeune, radioactive shrimp, they did the research.”
