President Donald Trump has ordered that all flags of the United States flown at U.S. federal buildings, military posts and embassies across the world be flown at half-staff “as a mark of respect for the memory of Charlie Kirk.”
Kirk, the 31-year-old CEO and co-founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, was killed Wednesday afternoon while on stage at a speaking event at Utah Valley University.
In accordance with Trump’s order, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has also ordered that the U.S and Michigan flags at the State Capitol, as well as those upon all public buildings and grounds across the state, be lowered to half-staff immediately.
Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments and other organizations also are encouraged to display the flag at half
