CHATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Columbia County celebrated its seniors on Wednesday. The annual Senior Day was held at the county fairgrounds in Chatham.
This year, they celebrated 50 years of the Columbia County Office for the Aging. One attendee was Tony Torres, a former firefighter, who served on September 11 even though he had retired 10 months earlier.
"And they kept calling. My phone kept ringing for about two days," he said. "So I went in as a volunteer, and I spent almost three weeks down there."
Torres said he was one of the lucky ones. He's had cancer three times but is still alive.
