NAMPA, Idaho — A Nampa police officer shot a 22-year-old man with autism Friday night after the man called police seeking help because he believed someone was following him, according to the man's family.

Ian Glass was shot near 6th Street North and 5th Avenue North after police found him with a knife and he did not comply with officers' commands, Nampa police said.

Glass's sister, Sierra Glass, said her brother has been diagnosed with autism and lives in assisted living care with 24-hour supervision. She said he left the facility after curfew without staff knowledge while experiencing paranoia, a condition he frequently faces.

"He ended up calling the police himself because he was scared and having an autistic meltdown, paranoid, just not doing okay," Sierra said.
