Police are searching for the driver who struck a teenage bicyclist on Albany Avenue Tuesday morning and fled the scene.

The incident has sparked renewed calls for road safety improvements along the busy state route.

The teen, a Hall High School student, was riding his bike to school around 7 a.m. when he was hit near the intersection of Albany Avenue and Lindy Lane, according to West Hartford police.

He was alert and conscious when first responders arrived and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the driver continued eastbound on Albany Avenue in what is believed to be a dark-colored SUV or hatchback. As of Wednesday, no arrests had been made.
