ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

New Mexico Supreme Court judges and local judges are taking a step away from the bench and into elementary schools this month.

The judges are bringing some civics education to life by highlighting the important role the Constitution plays and also helping students feel connected to democracy from an early age.

"It's important for people of all ages to learn about civics", Michael Vigil, Senior Justice on New Mexico Supreme Court, says. "To learn about their government, how the government works, how it's supposed to work, and it's important to get them started at a young age."

Constitution Day is celebrated on Sept. 17, which is the day the United States Constitution was signed in 1787.
