Three people were taken to the hospital after an argument at a supermarket in San Marcos ended with a stabbing on Wednesday.

It happened at the Stater Bros. on East Mission Road at around 12:20 p.m.

At the time, firefighters from the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District were shopping inside the store when they witnessed the incident. They stepped in to stop the fight, according to officials, along with other bystanders.

"I didn't see the knife at first because there was just swinging," witness Raul Meza said. "And there was a fireman on the other side, and he was coming out, and he saw the whole thing as well. And so, between the two of us, we kind of broke it up."
