A NSW coroner has recommended the death of a baby girl in the state's central west be referred to the unsolved homicide team for further investigation.

The nine-month-old was found unresponsive and died at her home in Binnaway in western NSW on July 23, 2018.

At the time, the baby was alone in the care of former X Factor television show participant Mitchell Callaway.

An autopsy concluded the baby had significant head injuries and bruising.

A coronial inquest began in December 2022, but was suspended in 2023 when Mr Callaway was charged with murder.

Medical experts told the coroner the girl's injuries were consistent with "accidental or deliberate infliction".

However, the charge was withdrawn by the Director of Public Prosecutions in December 2024, when Mr Callaway's defence produced
