EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - East Lansing's Independent Police Oversight Commission is not happy with some possible changes to its authority.

A new contract between the City of East Lansing and the union representing its police department looks to change some policies that commission leadership says will limit members' power.

The agreed-upon contract establishes a policy that differs from the ordinance that governs the Police Oversight Commission. The city council has to vote to amend the ordinance to match the contract.

Commission Chair Ernest Conerly said the changes will only allow Commissioners to view body camera footage for a set amount of time before they can't access the video anymore. The chair said this is concerning because all of the commissioners have other jobs and may not
