The Danville Planning Commission denied a request for more allowed density at a planned residential development in the Vandola Road area.

The commission voted 5-0 during its meeting Monday afternoon to recommend denial of a request by Blackstone Building Group LLC for a waiver that would have permitted the company to have lots as small as 16 feet wide — 2 feet less than the required minimum of 18 feet wide.

Planners’ vote came after Danville City Planner Renee Burton had recommended denial of the waiver.

“The ideal width for attached residential homes is 18 feet per unit,” Burton wrote in a staff report to commissioners and said during the commission’s meeting. “A reduced floor plan can lead to significant obstacles and diminish buyer interest.”
