The Danville Industrial Development Authority voted to hire an engineering firm to perform geotechnical work at the Coleman site.
The IDA voted 5-0 during its meeting Tuesday morning to enter into an agreement with Lynchburg-based Hurt & Proffitt Inc. to perform the work for $30,490.
Hurt & Proffitt has offices in Gretna and other locations in Virginia.
Work at the 158-acre site on Gypsum Road in Danville will include survey-staking 28 boring locations with elevations, or examining where boreholes will be drilled.
Boring entails drilling holes to collect soil samples.
The work will also include performing borings ranging in depth from 20 feet to 40 feet. The purpose is to test the soil for density, consistency and strength.
