The Twin Falls City Council on Monday approved the Ride TFT contract with Florida-based transit company Downtowner for a third year.

Ride TFT, a public microtransit service that provides on-demand rides within city limits for $3, began in 2023 with grant funding from the Idaho Department of Transportation, which covered nearly two years of operation with no local match required.

That grant was depleted in June. For fiscal year 2026, the city is providing $535,000 in local matching funds to receive $994,000 in federal transit funding from the 5307 urbanized area grant program.

The city could receive more federal funding if it can provide more local matching funds, but the 5307 grant funds roll over for three years, City Manager Travis Rothweiler told the Times-News on Wednesday.
