CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — The West Virginia Republican Party released a statement Wednesday mourning the death of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated Tuesday.

"The West Virginia Republican Party is deeply saddened by the heartbreaking assassination of Charlie Kirk," the statement said. "We join with our fellow citizens in mourning the loss of a remarkable man, devoted father, steadfast patriot, and bold Christian."

Kirk was the founder of Turning Point USA. According to the party, he inspired many young Americans to join the conservative movement.

Party Chairman Josh Holstein said Kirk was a monumental figure in the conservative movement who devoted his life to open debate and dialogue.
