(WHTM) -- On September 11, 2021, the Penn State Nittany Lions hosted fans at Beaver Stadium for the first time in 22 months after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Not only was this the first time in 22 months that fans were able to fill the seats at Beaver Stadium, but it also marked the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that took the lives of nearly 3,000 people.

In honor of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the family of former Penn State football player Patrick Dwyer served as honorary captains.

The Nittany Lions opened their home schedule on this day with a victory over Ball State, with a score of 44 -13. This win became Penn State's 300th win in Beaver Stadium, becoming one of just nine teams to boast
