A teen suffered serious burns after allegedly lighting himself on fire in Rhode Island last weekend as part of a viral TikTok challenge.

North Smithfield fire officials said they responded to the Slatersville Reservoir on Saturday afternoon for a person with serious burns. They said an 18-year-old male was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with second- and third-degree burnson his back. A 16-year-old boy who was also present was not hurt and was released to his parents.

Fire officials said the two teens appeared to be participating in a challenge which involved pouring gasoline on themselves, lighting themselves on fire and then jumping into the water.
