Caroline Hansen and Emily Vossenkuhl lined up on opposite sides of the net when they were Clark County high school volleyball standouts.

Now they are on the same side playing key roles for Western Washington, which took down two nationally-ranked teams last week at the WWU Invitational in Bellingham.

Hansen, the starting setter, had 25 assists in the Vikings’ four-set win over San Francisco State on Sept. 6. That came one day after the junior from Columbia River High School had 25 assists in a four-set win over St. Cloud State.

St. Cloud State entered last week No. 3 and San Francisco State No. 4 in the NCAA Division II coaches poll.

Vossenkuhl starts as Western Washington’s middle blocker. The 6-foot-1 junior from Ridgefield had six blocks, along with seven kills, against St. Cloud St
