ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The city of Albuquerque is inviting the community to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001. Albuquerque area firefighters will be honoring fallen first responders by climbing 110 flights of stairs Thursday morning.
Only firefighters will be allowed to ascend the stairs, but family, friends and supporters are welcome to gather and watch them make the climb. The firefighters will begin climbing at 8:46 a.m., the same time the first plane hit the first World Trade Center tower in New York. The stair climb will be held at the WaFd building in downtown Albuquerque.
Following the climb, the city will hold a memorial ceremony at Civic Plaza. The ceremony includes final honors for the lives lost in the attacks, including a 21 gun salute, bagpipes and
