MICHIGAN CITY — This week's speedy arrest of a 39-year-old Elkhart man following a shooting outside a local gas station sheds light on just how much technology is keeping watch and how police are using that to their advantage.
Local officers responded around 6:28 p.m. Sunday to the bp gas station at 1302 E. Michigan Blvd. where they learned a 40-year-old local resident had been shot multiple times in the leg.
Police said they gathered multiple gunshot casings and spoke to witnesses, but also reviewed surveillance video at the scene that showed a dark colored Lincoln pull into the parking area.
The video showed a man wearing dark colored shorts and shirt exit the vehicle wearing leopard print slippers, according to a charging document.
