Thousands of Toyota, Lexus and Subaru vehicles have been recalled because of issues with their heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
Toyota's parent company, which also owns Lexus and a portion of Subaru, discovered that some of its cars in in the model years 2023 to 2025 could have faulty HVAC systems, according to a Sept. 5 recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The systems could have electrical compressor failure, which can cause the defroster or defogger to be inoperative, increasing the risk of a crash, the recall notice said.
The issue can be remedied by updating the cars' HVAC system, according to the recall notice. Here's what to know.
Which Toyota, Lexus, Subaru vehicles are being recalled?
About 94,000 cars in the following models are part of the recall, according to the NHTSA notice:
- Toyota bZ4X 2023-2025
- Lexus RZ 2023-2025
- Subaru Solterra 2023-2025
Owners will be notified via letters that are expected to be mailed by Oct. 20.
Customers can also contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331 and mention the numbers for this recall: 25TB07 and 25TA07 for the bZ4X, 25LB04 and 25LA04 for the Lexus RZ and WRD-25 for the Subaru Solterra.
What to do if your car has been recalled
Owners with impacted vehicles should bring their car to a Toyota, Lexus or Subaru dealer and get the HVAC control software updated free of charge.
Dealers will also inspect the vehicle's electrical compressor and replace it if necessary, according to the notice.
