BURTON, S.C. —

Authorities in Beaufort County are searching for a murder suspect on the run.

According to information released Thursday by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, Tyre Joe Atkins, 21, of St. Helena Island, is wanted in connection with a deadly shooting.

Just after 4 p.m. Wednesday, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received reports of shots fired at Independence Mobile Home Park, on Shanklin Road in Burton.

The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office identified the victim, who was found dead at the scene, as Ty Haskell Jenkins IV, 20, of St. Helena Island.

Investigators have obtained a warrant for Atkins’ arrest on the charge of murder.
