(Gray News) - President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he will posthumously award Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Trump made the announcement at a service at the Pentagon commemorating the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
Trump said he is shocked by the horror of Kirk’s assassination during an appearance at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
Trump also praised Kirk’s impact on conservative politics.
“Charlie was a giant of his generation, a champion of liberty and an inspiration to millions and millions of people,” Trump said. “We miss him greatly, yet I have no doubt that Charlie’s voice and the courage he put into the hearts of countless people, especially young people, will live on.”
