CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A judge has ordered the man accused of killing a woman on a Charlotte light rail to be committed to a state psychiatric hospital for a capacity to proceed examination.
The evaluation at Central Regional Hospital in Butner will help a court determine whether 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr. is mentally competent to stand trial in the murder case of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska .
WBTV took questions about that process to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
Statewide Director of Forensic Services, Dr. Robert Cochrane, couldn’t speak specifically about any individual case.
