With the Dallas Cowboys shopping for someone to replace Perrion Winfrey , a defensive tackle placed on the injured reserve Monday who will miss a minimum of four weeks, the team hosted a former big name: 2014 No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney .

Dallas brought the free agent in to its facilities in Frisco Wednesday as the Cowboys weighed whether to add Clowney or promote one of several candidates from the practice squad. The Cowboys did not reach a deal with Clowney on Wednesday, and as of early Thursday morning, there was no word on the status of negotiations or whether they were ongoing.

At 32 years old, Clowney is well removed from his third and last Pro Bowl appearance in 2018. He had 5 1/2 sacks for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season, and in 2023 with the Baltimore Raven
