FRANKLINVILLE, N.Y. — Since the facility in Franklinville opened in November 2024, Great Lakes Cheese has violated its discharge permit at least 20 times, according to EPA records.
A search of EPA Enforcement and Compliance History shows that the company repeatedly discharged wastewater into Ischua Creek above their permitted allotment, sometimes by hundreds of percent.
In 2024 the company was permitted to discharge 547,143lbs of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). According to EPA records, they discharged 2.63 million pounds, more than 5 times their permit allowed.
So far, as of the end of July 2025, Great Lakes Cheese has discharged 6.65 million pounds of TDS into Ischua Creek, despite only being permitted to discharge 3.67 million pounds per year.
