ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - He lost his spot as Missouri House Speaker due to a sexting scandal ten years ago. Now, he faces federal prison for a charge related to fraud.

Thursday, prosecutors announced John Diehl had waived formal indictment and pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud. Prosecutors said Diehl stole nearly $400,000 from the government’s Small Business Administration.

Diehl, from Town and Country, was a well-known elected leader a decade ago.

He previously admitted to sexually inappropriate texts with a 19-year-old intern in Jefferson City and resigned his position.

In 2023, he was fined for misuse of campaign funds.

This is a developing story. Check back for additional details.
