YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - It's been called the "greatest movie musical of all time," and starting Friday, local audiences will get a chance to see why.
The musical "Singin' in the Rain" by Arthur Freed & Nacio Herb Brown was first a popular and well-known movie starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds in 1952. It didn't see its stage debut until the 1980s, but has continued to flourish globally ever since.
"Singin' in the Rain" is set in 1927 in Hollywood and centers on popular silent film stars Don Lockwood and Lina LaMont. Things start to get a little hairy when silent films transition into "talkies." Lina has a terrible speaking and singing voice, and Don and Lina's latest movie is about to be made into a musical.
