Four Appoquinimink School District high school students were taken to the hospital after suffering syncopal episodes at a Patriot Day ceremony being held at Middletown High School on Thursday morning, September 11, 2025.

Students from all three district high schools were at the 9-11 ceremony, including several members of the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (Junior ROTC) program.

A total of ten students including Junior ROTC cadets, between the ages of 14 and 18 were checked out after fainting, or nearly passing out.

New Castle County EMS was already on site as part of the event and called for additional ambulances.

Three female students, aged 15 and 16, were taken to the Middletown Emergency Room, and a 16-year old male was transported to Nemours Childrens Hospital.
