MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) -- A new partnership is taking action to help students learn about our local almond production.

On Wednesday, UC Merced signed an agreement with the Almond Board of California and UC Agriculture and Natural Resources.

This partnership aims to collaborate on research, hands-on training and prepare the next generation of leaders in agriculture.

The university says this partnership will help students advance sustainable almond production and local farm innovation.

California grows 80 percent of the world's almonds, with the Central Valley being one of only five regions in the world suitable for growing the nuts.
