WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Twenty-four years ago, the 9/11 Terror Attacks shook the United States, claiming the lives of nearly 3,000 people.

On Sept. 11, 2001, al-Qaeda militants hijacked four planes, steering them into the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.

In remembrance of the many lives lost during the attacks, numerous memorials and tributes across D.C., Maryland and Virginia were held on Thursday.
