(FOX40.COM) — Politicians are releasing statements on Thursday, remembering the lives that were lost during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

In a Facebook post, California Gov. Gavin Newsom said, "24 years ago, nearly 3,000 lives were claimed during the unconscionable attacks of 9/11. California will forever hold the memory of those lost in our hearts, as well as the service members who dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms and way of life."
