The have had their grand reopenings – and residents are apparently using them more than ever. The two centres have been revamped and reopened under charitable social enterprise Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL).

All facilities are now reopened, and the council and leisure leaders involved said they were delighted with how they had turned out. Former operator Active Nation went into administration in April, triggering to take them over as soon as possible.

Finding a new operator would typically take closer to a year than the four months that have passed. leader Naomi Tweddle (Lab) praised the work done by GLL in a short space of time.

“People say you don’t know what you’ve got until you’ve lost it, but people really felt the hole in the community when the leisure centres closed,” she said.
