COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Multiple South Carolina HBCUs have implemented new security measures as threats are being made to schools across the country.

These threats come after right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk was fatally shot at an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

South Carolina State University is now requiring identification checks for anyone who enters campus. According to a statement from the university, security personnel have been instructed to check photo IDs for students, staff and visitors.

SC State President Alexander Conyers said in the statement that everyone on campus should have a “see or hear something, say something” approach to safety at this time.

Morris College is also implementing photo ID checks as an additional security measure.
