WYANDOTTE COUNTY, Kan. (KCTV) - An autopsy report from the State of Kansas has revealed new details surrounding the death of Wyandotte County Jail inmate Charles Adair.

An autopsy report obtained by KCTV on Thursday says an officer was kneeling on Adair’s back during a struggle that happened after he began to yell and physically resist their commands.

The autopsy listed Adair’s cause of death as “complications of mechanical asphyxia,” which is a condition in which breathing is obstructed or prevented by physical force. The autopsy report also lists contributory causes of “hyper-extensive cardiovascular disease and hepatic cirrhosis due to chronic alcoholism.”

Adair’s death on July 5 was immediately under investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
