GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A small, single-engine propeller plane that was headed to Michigan from Wisconsin crashed in Lake Michigan, according to a Milwaukee airport spokesperson.

The Cirrus SR22 took off around 12:17 p.m. from the Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport headed to Michigan. Due to a “problem in flight,” it crashed into Lake Michigan 20 minutes later, according to a spokesperson for the airport. It was about 12 nautical miles from Racine, the Coast Guard told WTMJ, News 8’s NBC affiliate station in Milwaukee.

The three people who were on the plane were rescued by the Coast Guard, WTMJ said. They were all wearing life jackets and were uninjured.

It’s not clear what led up to the crash or exactly where the plane was set to land in Michigan.
