A beloved illustrated novel for young people bounds onto the stage as the South Carolina Children’s Theatre presents the first Greenville production of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.”
The season-opening musical, which centers on an awkward teenager named Greg, runs Sept. 19 to Oct. 5 on the Bell Stage.
“It’s a really fun musical about being in middle school, telling the story of everyone’s experience there,” said Katie O’Kelly, CEO of the South Carolina Children’s Theatre. “It’s a time when you’re trying to find your place in the world, you’re trying to find your friends, and you’re trying to stand up for what’s right.”
“Diary of a Wimpy Kid” features an all-local cast of 14 teens and four adults, and the spotlight really shines on the young people.
