MUSKEGON, Mich. — The South Breakwater Lighthouse at Pere Marquette Beach in Muskegon is finally getting some much-needed restoration . The Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy announced that the pier the lighthouse sits at the end of will be partially closed as they begin work.
The lighthouse has sat on the Lake Michigan shoreline, battered and abused by Mother Nature as Lake Michigan's waves crashed into it through storms and ice froze over it through winters, since it was first built in 1931.
Now, the historic landmark is in for some well-deserved TLC, as work begins Sept. 15.
While that work is conducted, the pier will be partially closed at its midway point to visitors in order to allow safe access for crews and ensure public safety.
