WATERTOWN, Conn. (WFSB) - Voters in Watertown will decide next week how to handle millions of dollars in mounting debt the town owes the city of Waterbury and it could mean skyrocketing water and sewer bills for residents.
A referendum question on next week’s ballot asks whether the town should borrow 30 million dollars to pay back what it owes. If voters say yes, the town would take out that loan and pay it off by raising water and sewer rates. A no vote could mean pushing the problem further down the road and making it worse with added interest.
At a special town council meeting on Monday night, residents shared their frustrations directly with town leaders.
